Just obtained my third associates degree in November, 2014. (The first two were in business; this one was in Health Services Administration.)
I'm now part of an exclusive club in that I was diagnosed with tongue cancer in September, 2014, had surgery in October, then radiation in November/December. I'm recovering nicely and enjoying the only good side effect from radiation: dramatic weight loss!
Interests are movies, thrift store bargain hunting, spending time with family and friends, painting, decorating, history, antiques, gardening, scrapbooking, etc., etc.
I have a facebook page where I sometimes remember to check messages and post trivial crap about my life. I bought a home in Winchester in 2011 and began teaching in 2012.
Honestly? I hated high school. Loathed it. The most fun I had was as an office aide, playing poker in Mrs. Pence's classroom at lunchtime and listening to Mrs. Gochenour in English class and working on the newspaper. I lived in Maurertown and went to Toms Brook Elementary until we moved to Richmond (Chesterfield Co) after 6th grade. There I went to Jr High and mapped out the rest of my education with classes like German and Theater Arts. When we moved back to Shenandoah County three years later, none of the classes I planned to study were available. The emphasis was on athletics and God help you if you didn't have the right last name or connections (and I surely did not). I thought I was coming back home (we moved back into the same house, my brothers were CHS alumni) but felt like an outsider at school. I was miserable for those three years. Thankfully, college was a better experience! But I do have fond memories of the people who befriended me and made the time at CHS tolerable, like Sandi Baber, Martha Symons, Jeff Dodson and Dwayne Keller.
Since our 30th reunion, I've reconnected with several folks from our class and found a wonderful, supportive group of women who have become such good friends. TZFFB!! (Thank Zuckerberg for FaceBook) since it has kept me in touch with so many folks, especially during my health crisis and recovery. I would never have gotten through all that by myself.
